Genius Hour 2.5- Planning

    Welcome back! Once again this week was a success on the road to our future prep night! Starting off the week, Laurel came to me Tuesday during advisory and informed me that she talked to the school administrators and was told she could even get snacks for the night! So we made a list of COVID friendly snacks such as small packages of goldfish.

    On Thursday, Laurel and I traveled around the school to ask the teachers that are attending what topic they would like to cover for the night. All the teachers were very helpful and knew exactly what they wanted to cover. Mrs. Reierson also gave us the wonderful idea of having each teacher give a presentation on their topic and then the last half of the night will include a panel set up so students can ask questions directly. We all agreed we liked this idea a lot, compared to grouping up the kids with each teacher and sending them to classrooms. We also knew the presentation set up will also take less time and will be a lot easier for everyone.

    After creating a list of what teachers had each topic, we talked to Mr. Gundlach about what his thoughts were. He loved everything and informed us that he would start putting it on the announcements at the end of the week. Then Laurel and I traveled back to the classroom, where Jenna, Laurel, and I all came together to create a google forms. We had the perfect idea of creating a form and emailing it to all the kids in the school, to have an estimate on how many kids will attend. The form included two questions which asked if they were planning on attending, and if they had any questions or topics they wanted cover. After sending the email out we immediately got a couple responses that were from students planning on attending. 

    Overall this week was a successful one! We now have an official overview of what the night will look like. Sadly we have not followed our action plan, as in the original plan we were supposed to have our night on March 10th, so this week we were supposed to be getting feedback from students about the night. Obviously that did not happen, as we are only having one night on March 24th. However,  I am glad we did not have two nights, because now we have time to perfect the one and make sure it runs smoothly. I am starting to get very excited about the night, and I just know it will be a success! Next week we are planning on making an official schedule for the night to give to teachers so they can begin to prepare!!
